MARCELA SALAMANCA

Hello! I am Marcela and I am pleased you have decided to learn more about me. I am a registered clinical social worker with over 10 years of experience in providing psychotherapeutic treatment. My passion lies in working with children, teens and their caregivers so that each can reach their fullest potential

Reaching out for help when feeling vulnerable, alone and overwhelmed can be terrifying but I want you to know that, regardless of age, it takes great courage and strength to open up and face what is distressing or holding you back. You have just taken a giant leap towards making your life better. I sincerely commend you.

I graduated from the University of Calgary and hold an undergraduate degree in psychology and a graduate degree in social work. I have completed two years of additional clinical supervision, mentoring and testing to obtain my clinical social work designation. I have significant training in play-based psychotherapy and solution-focused brief therapy and I can also incorporate mindfulness and cognitive-behavioral therapy into my practice. I hold an attachment-based perspective because I believe we are all social beings and regardless of life experiences we crave healthy relationships and do better when we are able to foster and maintain them. However, the clinical approach taken in therapy is only one of the important pieces. My ultimate goal is to foster a caring, genuine, and open therapeutic relationship because time and time again, research has proven this to be the strongest predictor of client success in psychotherapeutic treatment. You, your child and/or your teen are experts of your own lived experiences and I am here to provide a safe space for you to unpack your struggles, help you find your strengths to become more resilient and guide you towards improved coping.

So, if you are a parent or caregiver of a child or adolescent and you feeling overwhelmed and helpless in your parenting relationship, there is much that can be done to change this. If you are a parent or caregiver concerned about your child or adolescent, we can work together to help your child or adolescent thrive. If you are a child or teen feeling anxious, depressed, stressed out or simply needing to talk to someone, I can help you and your parent(s)/caregiver(s) find ways so you can feel better.

While the last half of my career has been focused on children, youth and parents/caregivers, I have many years of experience working with anxious, depressed, stressed, and emotionally labile adults. I have worked with people from all walks of life experiencing all sorts of challenges. If your gut is telling you it might be a good idea to ask for help, trust it.

If you think we may be able to work together to help get you and/or your child/adolescent to a better place, please contact our office or book online. I humbly thank you for allowing me the opportunity to join you on your journey towards improved living.
