EYE MOVEMENT DESENSITIZATION & REPROCESSING (EMDR)

At Ward & Associates Psychological Services, we offer Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy as a specialized approach to help individuals overcome the effects of past trauma, unpleasant experiences, and other challenging life events.

WHAT IS EMDR?

EMDR is a specialized and evidence-based psychotherapy method developed to alleviate emotional distress associated with traumatic memories. This therapeutic approach combines aspects of cognitive therapy and bilateral stimulation to aid in the adaptive processing and resolution of distressing experiences.

HOW DOES EMDR WORK?

In EMDR Sessions, clients focus on traumatic memories while simultaneously following specific eye movements, sounds, or taps guided by the therapist. This bilateral stimulation assists in facilitating the brain's natural healing processes, allowing clients to reprocess and integrate distressing memories more effectively.

WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM EMDR?

EMDR has shown effectiveness in treating various conditions, including but not limited to:

  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

  • Anxiety Disorders

  • Depression

  • Phobias

  • Childhood Trauma

  • Grief and Loss
